Aiding The Runner....Or Not

True or False

It is illegal for a teamate to push a runner forward but it is not illegal to push the pile forward.

For argument sake, let's say forward progress has NOT stopped.

NFHS and NCAA

NFHS -- True. Rule 9-1.

Pushing a pile that contains a runner is pushing a runner. It should be a penalty under NFHS rules. Pushing a pile that doesn't contain a runner but the runner is following the pile is OK.

NFHS Rule 9 Sec. 1 Art. 1... An offensive player shall not push, pull or lift the runner to assist his forward progress.

The rule you quote and your statement before it are not consistent. The rule does not say anything about pushung a pile that contains a runner. You also seem to acknowledge this when you say it SHOULD be a penalty.
