I need to ask you football guys a question...why are the pylons nearest the goalposts routinely moved behind the back endzone line by the crew on arrival to the field?

The diagram above indicates they should be on that line like the other four.

Just curious.

Eyezen,

The actual rule, 1-2-4, on the pylon placement says: ... shall be placed either 3 feet beyond the end lines or on the end lines....

So by rule it can be either. On our crew we move them so the BJ doesn't have to worry about running into them when he is properly positioned on the end line.

You move them so no one runs into then and you have to rule someone out of bounds unnecessarily. I am a back judge and my concern is not with me running into them, my concern is that a player runs into them. And many of the pylons are not very straight vertically, and a player might run into one without stepping on the line.
