scrimmage kick?

If the receiving team muffs a scrimmage kick (punt) and it goes into the recieving teams endzone, can the kicking team recover it for a touchdown (NFHS)? Or would this be a touchback, with possession being given to the receiving team?

Thanks,
Fan

once the ball breaks the plane in fed rules and NO possession by the R's then it is a touchback.

I agree kind of goofy but thats the way it is.

Same with a kickoff.

The plane of the goalline kills the play here.

The kick does not end with a muff or first touching. So any kick that goes into the end zone is considered a still a kick and any kick that goes into the end zone without possession is a touchback.

Peace
