too lazy to look sorry

just got home from game tonight.

A22 runs 30 yards and scores a touchdown.

after crossing the goal line b55 hits a22 about 5 yards deep.

covering bj and lj flag for a late hit.

being a deadball unsportsmanlike foul A has only one option- the penalty being dead ball is enforced from the succeeding spot since it is a dead ball foul. (correct!?!?) 1/2 the distance from the 3.

if it was a live ball foul then they could have it enforced on the kickoff.

this is on the touchdown play and nothing to do with the try

First of all this is not an USC foul this is a dead ball personal foul because there was contact. Only live ball fouls by the opponent of the team scoring a touchdown may be enforced on the try; or choose to have the penalty enforcement on the free kick. You are correct that the dead ball foul must be enforced from the succeeding spot (the try).

Hate to hammer on the same point covered recently but USC fouls are NON-contact fouls. They include things like taunting and saying the "magic" word.

It was late and i was tired and you are correct dead ball personal foul.

My point along with many others on this board this is the loophole that needs closed by next season is the deadball foul just isnt severe enough for the defense.

A 1 and 1/2 yard penalty for a late hit is pretty much a slap on a wrist.

Yes i know there are other circumstances where you go half the distance to the goal but this is after a TD.

For the most I am assuming we all agree this needs changed.

My coach on the field last night was losing by 3 tds at the time then this happens to one of his players. He was upset losing then upset by the play. While the trainers were attending to the player he said to me "this is where the new rule takes place for the enforcement"

I told him no because of the deadball foul enforcement.

Fortunately for me we have worked for him before and have gained his respect and he was pretty cool about the whole thing.

He has been on the state coaches board and thru our conversation i told him to call the state office and express his concern in regards to player safety on this type of play.

With the coaches help and the officials i think we are all pretty sure this will be changed.

Personally the FED should say hey we screwed up with the loophole and make the rule change as soon as possible, today would be great with me.

CANADIAN RULING:

This is a UR foul. Our UR fouls have basically the non-offending team applying the penalty where ever they wish. ½ the distance on the convert, or 15 on the KO. The 15y can be on an induced KO, stretched to the next quarter, or even to overtime, if the situation warrants.

This is a HUGE hole in the rule and needs to be closed. Contact your state association and tell them. The state sends reports and ideas for rules changes to NF. That's how it works.
