OFF TOPIC: LSU/Miss. State game

I know this forum is for High School football, but I had a few observations from last night that maybe someone could shed some light on.

#1. Does the SEC require their officials to place their flags in their back pockets? When the officials threw their flags, they seemed to be very awkward.

#2. In the fourth quarter the referee was switched out. Was this due to injury/sickness?

I thought overall that the crew had a bit of a rough go of it. They didn't seem to mesh too well. Maybe this was one of their first times together on a field.

I thought I saw one of the wing officials with a wired earpiece. Do college officials use some sort of communications device?

I know one of the officials that work the game. If I see him this week I will make sure I ask him. I did not see the entire game so I do not know for sure.

Peace

GPC2,

I watched the game and it did seem like they didn't have a flow. The HL looked to always trying to find his flag. It looked like he was being shadowed as well. Maybe doing some on field training. I didn't notice the switch in Rs.

I have seen that HL before, but have never seen the U, LJ, or BJ. The official that you thought was shadowing the HL was the one who ended up switching out with the R. ...and I have seen both of the R's that worked, and I personally like both of them as R's.

I was talking to a fellow official today at lunch who said that SEC mechanics has the officials placing their flags in their back pockets.

He also said if you watch some old footage (don't know how old) they use to be required to have two flags one in each back pocket and both of them hanging out easy to be grabbed.

I also noticed that the flags were hanging out of the pocket - that looks really sloppy to me - just one man's opinion.

There are a lot of us here that dislike a LOT of the SEC mechanics. Not sure why they feel the need to be different from everyone else, but they do. The tacky flag thing is one of them.

To be fair the majority of the people that are on this board are only working HS games. You might use NCAA rules in your state, but those are still HS games. Just like anything people will talk about all levels, but the vast majority of people will never see an NCAA game realistically.

Peace
