OFF TOPIC: LSU/Miss. State game
I know this forum is for High School football, but I had a few observations from last night that maybe someone could shed some light on.
#1. Does the SEC require their officials to place their flags in their back pockets? When the officials threw their flags, they seemed to be very awkward. #2. In the fourth quarter the referee was switched out. Was this due to injury/sickness? I thought overall that the crew had a bit of a rough go of it. They didn't seem to mesh too well. Maybe this was one of their first times together on a field. |
I thought I saw one of the wing officials with a wired earpiece. Do college officials use some sort of communications device?

I know one of the officials that work the game. If I see him this week I will make sure I ask him. I did not see the entire game so I do not know for sure.

GPC2,
I watched the game and it did seem like they didn't have a flow. The HL looked to always trying to find his flag. It looked like he was being shadowed as well. Maybe doing some on field training. I didn't notice the switch in Rs. |

This is a forum for Football Officiating. They do that in college and the NFL as well. |

He also said if you watch some old footage (don't know how old) they use to be required to have two flags one in each back pocket and both of them hanging out easy to be grabbed. |

OK, my bad then. I guess I ASSumed... |

I also noticed that the flags were hanging out of the pocket - that looks really sloppy to me - just one man's opinion. |
