New NFL mechanics?????

I noticed in the San Diego @ Arizona and Minnesota @ Seattle games. It appears they have moved the Umpire to the offensive backfield opposite the Referee. Now you have two officials in the offensive backfield.

Is this an experiment or a new mechanic?

It appears they move the Umpire back ito his normal position in certain player, so it looks like it might be an experiment....

I can see the pros and cons of moving the Umpire to the backfield. It looks like a good mood on the surface...
