Ideas for a Clinic

I am looking for a couple of suggestions for a clinic that our association is having. This is our 11th annual clinic and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of topics that they have presented or have seen at clinics that they would think would be beneficial for a high school level clinic.

We will cover the usual suspects, new rules, handling coaches, etc. But if you have an idea I would love to hear it.

Thanks.

After the usual stuff that is gone through, and we all go through the rules and taking care of coaches...I don't think we as officials talk nearly enough about basic philosophies not necessarily of the game but of officiating.

What makes a great official. What qualities do they all share?

What constitutes a foul...not by rule, but by pragmatic application. When is a hold not a hold? Why is the hold that everyone sees at the other end of the line never cold...and why is the little hook that creates an advantage always called?

Just a couple of thoughts. Hope it helps.

I am on the committee for an annual football clinic and it runs for all day a couple of weeks before the season. Here are some typical topics we cover.
  • Positions: Referee, Umpire, Wings and Back Judge (all separate topics)
  • The Passing Game
  • The Running Game
  • The Kicking Game
  • Touchdown, Touchback and Safety
  • Inside the 20 (similar to the one above)
  • Penalty Enforcement (used every year)
  • The Little Things
  • The X files (Handling unusual plays and situations)

This all I can think of right now.

Peace

You might try a session specific to coverage of the goal line and end zone.

We had one once where a good crew was on the field and demonstrated how they'd go about things for different plays and stuff. The R was miced up to explain things as they did them. It was not a long session, but was nice to see how they went about things mechanics wise. Good for new guys especially and for veterans to maybe get other ideas.
