How do you paint football helmets, i have a white helmet with a red facemask, and i want a black helmet with a black facemask.

Can you even paint facemask?

You can paint them but...

they aren't going to hold up. Most helmets and all face masks have the color molded into the plastic. A few good licks and its going to start coming off.

You might pose your question to the guys at this site.

My understanding is that it is not legal to paint a helmet that is used by kids in school programs. The warranty would be voided because the paint affects the integrity of the plastic. That is why all the logos and stripes are stickers.

What might work well is something that my father uses on his model airplanes, called MonoKote. It's kind of like a contact paper, but it's bonded to the surface with heat. Still not sure how well it will hold up after taking hits, though.

Also, surely everyone on the team should have helmets that are the same color?

You are right you paint a helmet it voids all warranties. The best thing and really only way to change the color, is go through a reconditioner Like Circle or Riddell. Its cost money but really the only way to do it. Also since there is a color on it it actullay may change the look of the black on it.

Pinting Football Helmets

Is this a procedure to shrink a helmet for someone with a tiny head?

Good pick up!
Helmets for little people, I guess. I have always heard the term half pint. What about them?

Krylon! Why didn't I think of that??

I don't think those tips are for someone who plans on actually using the helmet.

I've got some Rustoleum out in the garage somewhere!

The original poster didn't specify.

Do they make 'ten gallon' helmets for Texas football players?

TO needs at least a 20-gallon helmet.
