I was once told that there was a rule in the NFL called a drop kick. A player would take a snap and drop the football and kick it throught the uprights for 4 points. Is this true?

I was told that Jim McMahon was actually excellent at this and would do it in practice all the time from like 40-50 yards.

Drop Kick = 3 points

It's in the rule book, but I haven't seen it in 15 years

The "drop kick" remains defined and legal in NCAA rules. I've actually seen it done a few times, although its been several years.

NCAA rule 2-15
Drop Kick
ARTICLE 3. A drop kick is a kick by a player who drops the ball and kicks it as it touches the ground.

By the way, a field goal is good for 4 points in six-man football!
