USC/Michigan uniform number
I don't work football so I was wondering if someone could tell me how 2 different players from the same team can wear the same number. USC's QB was #10 as well as their linebacker/defensive end. I believe that was John David Booty and Cushing was the defensive player. Just a case of so many players that a number had to be duplicated?

It is okay as long as they are not on the field at the same time.

Interesting, we have an editorial that every player must have a different number.
How do you charge USCs if there are 2 of the same number? I guess at the higher levels you get a bit more proficiant than I am, but I just write down the number and check if there is another. We also have so many people that play multiple positions that adding the position might not be much of a help in keeping track. James |
but there also is a rule stating
"No two players of the same team shall participate in the same down wearing identical numbers (A.R. 1-4-2-II) [S23]." I don't recall any editiorial to the contrary. |
If memory serves JJ is from England? They may have a league-unique rule on the unis. And I can see how in a situation like that they might have trouble keeping things straight on the UC issue. Over here, it has never been a problem for me as when I flag some player for UC I clearly know who he is and will know when he gets his second.
