I most definitely apply advantage/disadvantage/common sense when it comes to Illegal Formation.

Yes. (Added text because this ridiculous site feels the answer of "Yes." is not sufficient.)

Monday-Thursday... sure.
Friday, in a blowout ... ok
Friday in a close game? No way.
Saturday in any game? Absolutely not.
Saturday on a nationally televised game with thirtysomething cameras and 100% chance that every call will be scrutinized? Hell no.

One thing a lot of people I've mentored tend to forget wrt illegal formation is that sophisticated defenses make decisions and coverages based on where players are lined up. If you have a player (re: Alamo Bowl) lined up on the line, and covered by a WR ... you DON'T cover him. In fact, in many cases or coverage packages, the person designated to cover him will rush the QB if his player turns out to be ineligible.
