Lineman shifting

Last year I had a JV game with a very similar situation. the whole game the visitors used 2-pt stance on pass plays, and 3 pt on run plays. Late in the game on 4th and short they came set in the 2 pt stance, then shifted to the 3 pt stance in a very exaggerated fashion, causing the defense to jump. I flagged them fro false start. This action was clearly to draw the defense offsides.

You have to use judgement though, and others will tell you this shift is legal. I think the circumstances must dictate whether it is or not.

My only comment is:

WHY IS THE UMPIRE BLOWING HIS WHISTLE?

I have only been doing varsity H.S. football for four years. But as a young rookie umpire, I learned early on that the umpire can (and should) put his whistle away on 95% of all football plays. That is why I use a finger whistle at umpire. Out of the way, and takes mental thought to blow it. Time to see the ball.

Based on his other comments about motion, that guys needs to go back to Youth Activities games until he gets himself straightened out.
