Review question

Missouri-Kansas game: A83 catches a pass and is running open for a touchdown. A8 commits a block in the back on B22 about 7 yards behind the ball. B24 sees his buddy getting blocked in the back and then comes up and blocks A8 in the back. The ball has not yet crossed the goal line and the result of the play was a touchdown. Flag(s) are thrown and the crew gets together. They come and tell the R what they have and the R steps out and says that the score is good and that there is "a personal foul on #8 on the defense". This caused some confusion because there was no #8 on the defense as he was on offense.

After a few seconds either the head coach of the the defensive team or the replay official, I don't know which, requests a review. The review shows that A8 had a block in the back and B24 had a either a block in the back or a personal foul (it doesn't really matter) for an unnecessary block. Either way the R then announces there were offsetting penalties and the down would be replayed. The ruling was correct and they got it right.

My question is is this reviewable due to the fact it's a scoring play? Can a play be reviewed only because there was some obvious confusion on who did what?

No way they were reviewing the blocks. That is not reviewable. Maybe someone else will know what was going on, but they could not be reviewing the blocks.

It's a scoring play so it's reviewable. Right? I don't believe that was an issue. There was some communication problems and that is what seems to have set the whole thing in motion. Maybe we'll find out.

The part related to the score is reviewable, but what you said made it sound as if the scoring was not an issue, but the blocks. Someone will probably shed some light on it.
