Silly hypothetical question re: facemasking
 

Is I was watching Bears vs. Giants, an on field occurance made me wonder about somthing.
If an offensive lineman is impeding the defensive end by holding him by grasping the facemask , is the penalty holding , facemasking, or both?
If answer is both, does the defensive team have the option of accepting only the personal foul/facemacking penalty and declining the holding penalty?

Canadian Philosophy
 

The facemask penalty does not meet the definition of a hold, so there is no problem! Flag for facemask. 15 yards. No 5-yarder in Canada.

If the facemask is that impacting on the player, than the offender deserves to be ejected for rough play as that's a serious safety hazard.

Canadian rules: 25 yards, which can be applied from either PLS/PBH or PBD.
