Philly-TB

Anyone remember the Westbrook TD with 35 seconds to go? No one was in sight of him when he scored. When I watched this highlight, I wondered why he didn't stop at the 1 and wait for the defense to catch him, thus running off clock.

If he'd done this, and it was apparent he was not slowing to taunt (USC), but was slowing to kill clock, would you have flagged it?

If he'd done this (penalty or no), they might have won, as TB would not have had a chance at their 62 yard FG.

Could you possibly call him down because his forward progress has stopped?

How could you call him down if he is standing on his feet? Forward progress cannot be stopped when not contacted by the defense?

Tough call on the original question. I'd say if the time is the factor like that I'd say no foul, but even if you did, it will just be enforced on the try anyway.

My Philosophy

No foul.

Taking time off the clock is a strategic move. I don't think it's making a travesty of the game because the team A player used skills - faster running - to get to the GL first.
