Overtime enforcement
When there is a dead ball foul after the final play of regulation, and it is enforced against the team who will go on offense first in OT, does it remain 1st and goal?
Example: Team A commits a late hit after the final play of reg., and they are the first team on offense in OT, will it be 1st and 10 from the 25, or 1st and goal? I quickly perused the rule book/case book after the game, but didn't have time to find it. Anybody got the rule reference? |
Rule 5 should explain how to enforce fouls that occur prior to the RFP when a new series is going to be awarded.
Going into OT is awarding a new series to one or the other team. Make sure both teams know there is a foul and how it will be enforced if they win/lose the toss. With a standard NF OT from the 10 yard line, it will either be 1/G from the B-5 or 1/G from the B-25. In your example, team-A snaps 1/G @B-25. |

That's what I thought.
We informed both teams at the OT coin toss, and the offending team didn't say a word. Of course, they didn't go ape until they lost. |
Would be first and 10 from the 35 for A if you start OT from the 20 like we do here in NY.
