The "kick" put the ball into their own EZ and that's all that matters. Safety is the correct result.

I think he understands what he SHOULD call now. Regardless of whether he thinks it's fair. What I'm curious about is - what he WOULD consider fair, if he had the pen when writing the rules.

I'll bite, although my rules would be written in crayon.

If B muffs a scrimmage kick that ends in or out of the end zone of K not in possession of R, then K may elect to have the ball spotted at the location of the muff.

That would be a bit odd in a different way. Posit a muff at the 12 ... if it goes out at the 10, they get it at the 10. Out at the 6, get it at the 6. Out at the 3, get it at the 3 ... the further back it rolls the worse off they are ... until it crosses the goal line, at which point they magically get 12 yards back.

Exactly!

1.I think there is some magic about the end zone, don't you?

2. I would say that the difference is that none of the other scenarios would result in points for R.

3. Similar to a fumble by A. if it goes out at B's 1, good shape. If it goes out in the end zone, bad news.

4. This is why I don't write the rules, but simply complain about the ones others write.
