Suspensions

I was just wondering if the idea of officials serving suspensions for making a mistake is something of a recent development? Or are there times in the past 20 to 30 to 40 years where refs were suspended for mistakes made in games?

The "5th down" officials from the Colorado-Missouri game were suspended.
