REPLY: I know this is repetitive for those of you that frequent the REFSTRIPES board, but...

Curt Johnson, an official from Wisconsin, known to his friends as "Doc" and a chiropractor by trade, was a regular poster on McGriff's board and had this piece published in REFEREE magazine. I haven't seen or heard from Doc for a while, but this post reminds me to give him a call.

The best one is "You're just doing it for the money." That always brings a smile to my face as well. Leave work at 3pm. Drive 2 1/2 hours, do the game, get home at 1:30 am for 55 bucks. yeah, we do it for the money.

I enjoyed reading that.

That is one thing I don't miss about officiating in Kansas, the long drives and very low game fees, I got paid exactly 55 bucks once for a V game that took us damn near 3 hours to get to! In Western NY we have a set game fee for V contests, 77 bucks and the travel is no where near 2 1/2 hours.

Great article!

You were making a lot if you got $55 back in 2001 for a varsity game in Kansas. We are getting $65 now at some schools and $60 at most others.

Doc is a great official. Doc and I work on the same college crew together. He has helped me in many ways when it comes to football. Great Outlook!

See you Saturday Doc.

It's the 8x8 dressing room with the shower head that barely works and NO HOT WATER IN SIGHT!
