Do You Let Them Play?

In a sub-varsity game team A is unable to put 5 players on the field numbered 50 - 79. They have only three players with numbers in that range and there are no spare jerseys they can use to meet the numbering requirement.

Do you forfeit the game to B?

Do you suspend the numbering rule and let them play?

You let them play and if someone is worried about who is eligible and who is not, ask the home team for some pullver vests or something similar to designate eligibles or ineligibles)

You cancel the teams entire season and fire the coach! Yes you let them play! Make the other coach aware of the issues and let the game go on.

I agree with the firing of the coach deal. This is what you do, go to Wal-Mart, buy some Duct tape and make some home made numbers. You know, like you do for soft ball games when your 9th player shows up with just a regular T shirt on.

We never enforce the numbering rules at sub-varsity.

If someone does make a huge issue out of it you could put some athletic tape on their helmets.

Just let them play.

I never worry about numbering in sub-varsity contests. Most schools do't have enough uniforms and many times the kids are playing both offense and defense.

In our area eligibilty for any contests other then varsity is enforced by position only, numbers don't matter.

We do not enforce it here either at sub-V. It makes it a bit tricky for pass eligibility rules (for instance, #20 can often be lined up as a guard). Then again, the over-under for passes in a middle school game is 3.
