Over analyzing football movies

When you guys watch a football movie, do you take note of the officials, or any different plays? Friday night I am watching Invincible, and I notice that V.Papali scores a TD on a muffed punt. I am thinking to myself "were the rules that different back then?" Does anyone else analyze football movies to this degree?

Oh yeah, I'm very very hard on football movies. Nothing I hate worse than a football movie where every play is either the biggest hit in the world, or the player flying throught the air turning flips, etc. Very few realistic football movies as far as on the field action.

I think the on-field action in Rudy is pretty authentic.

I don't necessarily look at whether or not the plays are authentic. I realize it is a movie and action movies have very unrealistic explosions, chases, etc. in them. I do, however, anyalyze the officials. I mostly get upset when they portray officials in a negative light. For example, they always seem to let the "bad guy" team cheat, rough up, etc. against the "good guy" team. And while I don't remember everything about Remember the Titans, I do recall a game in which the officials were biased against Denzel Washington's team in an attempt to get him fired so they could bring back the white coach. While the officials probably did have some role in the racial dynamics in the game, I did not think it was necessary to bring the officials into the racism of the situation.

So rather than saying "hey, that flip the player made was totally unrealistic," I am likely to think "I really wish films would quit portraying the officials in such a negative light."

I do. And not just football movies. I'm an engineer (electrical, not a train) in RL, and I hate watching movies with computers the beep and click as somebody types away. Or the magical "let me enhance the image" to see the face of some killer.

I think many tend to analyze fictional portrayals of their professions--either for money or for fun--for inaccuracies.

I try not to over-analyze. Think of it the reverse way... if we tried to make a movie, it would be really bad and we would have no idea what we were doing. :)

...but the officials would look and act perfect, yet the rest of the movie would be horrible. :D

Muffed punt return

A review written by a coumnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer actually mentions that fact.

There have been some crappy football movies but the Longest Yard with Adam Sandler maybe the worst yet!!!!

Rudy is great!

I was watching a crappy movie called Cinderella Story with my wife.

I noticed that the officials were wearing stirrups. Doesn't appear that they filmed in Canada, either.
