Opening Night!!

Once again, it looks like Alaska is kicking off the first games of the high school season nationwide. Two games tonight, and a whole slate of games tomorrow all over the state. And to think I'm going camping with my son. What was I thinking?!?!

REPLY: W&S...where are you from? My sister and her family just moved to Tennessee from Eagle River after about ten years in the Midnight Sun. Previously they lived in Fairbanks.

Probably, but, the fact that we've already heard that our annual Permanent Fund Dividend checks which we get in October will be about $1,100 per person, up from $850 last year, we're doing all right.

I am on the Kenai Peninsula, about 2.5 hours south of Anchorage.

Is it long sleeves and/or jackets weather there yet?

Well, as luck would have it, the local scoutmaster called me around 10:30 Friday morning to cancel the campout due to weather. SOOOO, I was able to pick up a doubleheader for Saturday. It was raining crazy Saturda morning when I woke up, and most of the 30 minute drive to the gamesite. But, by the time we got dressed and out to the field, it was a light mist, and by kick-off of the JV game, there was no precipitation, so it was just a day of long sleeves. For the Varsity game, I probably coulda done it in short sleeves, as it was still a little muggy, but the sun was trying to shine a little bit.

Whistles & Stripes:

I have been contemplating going to Alaska for a summer to work in the hospitality industry and pretty much live it up. (I graduate college in December) One of the main things holding me back is my perceived 'lack of a football' schedule. How is it up there, would I be able to work some games? I officiate in Michigan currently, am 21, and have a full varsity schedule. I would love the chance to chat with you about the possibilities up there. . . .I would most likely be in either Denali or Glacier Bay-My email is [email protected] or if you prefer to post back here I will check this too. Thanks in advance.

Dale

What area of Tennessee did your sister move to?
