New shoes

I am getting new shoes for this season and I want some input on what you guys like. I want some with small studs or cleats as I have many games on field turf. Specific shoe type and site to buy would be appreciated.

Spotbilt from Honigs. Been using them for FB and softball. Love em.

football shoes

I started using the reebok's last year. Comfortable the first time out. Small studded knobs. Good traction unless the field is really dry and hard.

I purchased a pair of Reeboks with molded cleats two years ago. I work the wing position a lot and was tired of slipping (with my old shoes) when squaring off for spots. The Reeboks are a mid-height and give good ankle support. I don't have the "model" # but I purchased them at a Sports Authority in Omaha. The Reeboks have held up great. I use them on both field turf and natural grass.

I purchased my previous pair (can't recall the brand/model) through Honig's. Nothing against Honigs - I like their products and get nearly all my stuff from them. That said, I just can't buy shoes without trying them on first so I won't do the on-line/mail order route again for shoes.

I'd be interested to know what you end up getting. More and more of my games will likely be on field turf as more of the metro Omaha schools go away from the real grass.

I have the spot-bilts and while they are good shoes, they aren't that great for fieldturf type stuff. Will they work? Yes. Will they be like ice skates? No. But I think the smaller Reebok style studs on their NFL Low Grass and whatever is replacing that this year are better for what you are looking for. I'll probably get one of the Reebok models soon and use the SB for my mud shoes.

Nike also has a new shoe out that I tried on yesterday and seems to be an answer to Reebok's Low Grass. They are called the astrograbber are are very lightweight. I tried them on yesterday and while I didn't care for the fit of the shoe (Nikes have always been a problem for me), it might work for you.

I have the newer Spot-Bilts
I bought from Honigs. I wore them at the
first scrimmage/game on the new "field-turf"
at Bishop Verot HS here in May. I had no problems
at the Umpire position.
