Hey Guys, I need to settle a bet. What was the longest pass in the NFL excluding the reception yardage? I say it was Don Meredith to Bob Hays (83 yards). My co-worker says that's to long. Thanks.

This answer is from doing a google search.
The longest "in the air" pass statistic doesn't appear to be listed on any the NFL record sites on web. However, an internet user indicates that an NFL record book lists the longest pass in the air (NOT including the run after the catch) was 83 yards thrown by Don Meredith to Bob Hays (Dallas Cowboys). The statistic is in the NFL record book. The longest pass in the air was 83 yards thrown by Don Meridith to Bob Hays" |
There is no such statistic in the NFL Record & Fact Book records section that I can find.

I agree that the NFL does not track in the air vs. total play. The longest scoring pass would then be 99 yards. The longest non-scoring pass was 98 yards (St. Cardinals did it once).

Wasn't that Randall Cunningham scrambling around the endzone?
