Sorry guys if this has been posted, didn't see it in any other threads.

There was an OPI call against 83 for Pitt. on a screen pass to Bettis. Now they never really explained it or showed a replay, so I had to go on my memory of the play, but I'm pretty sure that Bettis was behind the LOS.

Anybody got info on this? Is the NFL rule diff. than HS?

I do not know all the rules, but players cannot block down field on a pass regardless if it is behind or beyond the LOS. Also ineligible receivers have to say behind the LOS as well until the ball is completed. It was the proper call by rule. I did not see what the player did or did not do.

Peace

I don't think it was OPI, but an inelegible downfield. Regardless, it struck me as odd coming from NFHS.

So, it was the proper call by NFL rule, right?

The call was OPI, not ineligible downfield. Look at the Super Bowl website for a play by play description. Number #83 is Heath Miller the Steelers Tight End. I do not know the NFL rule word for word. I do believe that you cannot block before the pass is completed.

You are correct Rut, it is OPI in the NFL if a receiver blocks downfield before the pass is touched by an eligible receiver.
