The two officials under the pipes are the Back Umpire and Back Judge.

The BU is responsible for determining who of the two shall blow his whistle and signal the good, or hold the whistle and signal the not good. He does so by verbalizing to the BJ something that will not confuse the defender that is in the EZ.

Remember that our uprights are on the GL. The other official goes back to the dead line if the FGA is wide, or moves up if the FGA is short; and in both cases has the primary responsibility for a restraining zone foul.

Also know that a missed FG is treated as a punt - a rouge can be scored (1 point) or a return kick is sometimes made.

wwcfoa43 is right - we do not like to mirror signals, just as it is not good practice to mirror flag throwing.
