During a Varsity game last Friday between #1 and #2 in a district. With the winner going to playoffs and the looser staying home.

Team #1 had already been flaged for 2 unsportsmanlike infractions on different players and numerious personal fouls.

Both my umpire and me flagged an illegal helmet contact foul (the second personal foul on this player). I had talked to this player twice about his conduct.

The game was getting a little out of hond so I envoked 1.1.6 and removed the player from the contest.

Iowa has an ejection rule but I thought that removal of the player was in the best interest of the game so I would not have to eject later on.

Is what I did the way to go or did I overstep my authority?

Did you judge the helmet contact to be flagrant? If so, dump him. If not, march off the 15 yards and move on.

I would have let the head coach know what was going on and there was a pretty good chance he would have taken care of this for you. No coach wants to lose a player to ejection this close to playoff time. Personally, I think you overstepped your authority on this one.

Sounds to me like you did the coach a favor...

This seemed like a great game. If the player had committed flagrant foul eject him. If he was just being aggresive just watch for fouls on him. I would not take a player out of a playoff bound game for being aggressive. I would let him do it himself.

What did you rule and what foul did you call on the player
to get him out of the game?

As was posted it was a good idea to notify the coach.
then if things happen he is aware of the problem.

I would go with the intent. I agree with notifying the coach.
