Did a 8th grade game yesterday which pitted cross town rivals against each other for the last remaining playoff spot in the league. Long story short, i was the line judge and was ridden all game by the home team (they lost 26-12 and it wasn't close at any juncture since the game was 20-0 in the 2nd quarter). These coaches had ZERO rules knowledge and even came up with some good ones (coach rode for five minutes on how horrible we were when we called intentional grounding when he insisted his QB was out of the pocket) Assistant coaches had their smart a$$ comments, and by the end of the 4th quarter, i had 1 UC on home team player, and a home team assistant coach ejected. Last play of the game was a sideline clearing brawl with the home team players inciting it.

Guy comes up to me after the game saying he was in the stands behind me the entire game and that he was planning to catch up with one of the crew and see how he could get get on our officiating board. After the game though, he said he decided to forget it after what he saw i went through.

Its horrible that bad coaches with no class drive out potential officials from even joining a board.

Sorry, just needed to get that out there, although i feel no better.

Life on the razor's edge, damn the torpedos, 8th grade football. Ya gotta love it. You are the epitome of tolerance. Home coaches would have been flying out of the stadium if it were me.

I kept my compsoure and my flags in the knickers as long as i could based on the atmosphere (plyoff type) and that i do have a good deal of tolerance, but by the end of the game the flags (i had two), even the hat, went flying. During the ejection i had three UC's (2 coach, 1 player) I didn't have anything else to throw!! I would have had to borrow another officials flags to pop someone else.

Then.....Then...the director of the home teams league said i was horrible by games end and would never do a game there ever again. Hmmm, makes you think why the players are so bad. They follow the example of their mentors.

To be honest, it did upset me. Not as an official, but as a future father who may not have enough time to coach his son's team and to know these idiots are out there to feed their own ego's and long gone football dreams at the expense of their players. As an official, i dont really care what he thinks.
