K free kicks and the ball is rolling around on R's 2 yard line. As K is about to recover the ball on the 2, R kicks the ball 'out' through his own endzone. What are K's options?

R should be flagged for illegal kicking. If accepted, R's ball @ 1. If declined, safety and 2 points for K.

Huh? I don't follow...how does R get the ball if accepted?

8.5.3 SITUATION B: K1 kicks off to start the second half. The ball is rolling on R's 7-yard line when R1: (a) accidentally, or (b) intentionally kicks the ball into his own end zone where R2 recovers. Is the kick by R1 in either (a) or (b) a new force? If the action is a foul, where is it penalized from? RULING: It is not a new force in either (a) or (b), as force is not a consideration on kicks going into R's end zone. Even though the ball was kicked by R1, the kick had not ended. The contact in (a) is ignored, because it was not an intentional act. In (b), the kick is illegal, and if the penalty is accepted, it is enforced from the previous spot. In both (a) and (b), the ball becomes dead when the kick breaks the plane of R's goal line. (2-13-4; 9-7-1; 10-6)

If the penalty is declined then it is a touchback because of 2-13-4.

Since this is a foul on the opponents of the scoring team, can't K take the safety and administer penalty from succeeding spot?? Which would give a R Free Kick from their 10 (half the distance from the 20)

Nevermind.

This is a loose ball foul. go to previous spot to enforce foul. decline it and its r's ball on 20.

Yep, I totally blew this one. Quick response without thinking it through. I also blew an IW tonight. 1st one in 4 years. See the ball, see the ball, see the ball. "Coach, an IW always screws somebody and tonight unfortunately it's you". He actually took it better than I expected. Put a blemish on an otherwise well-officiated game.

Anyway, loose ball play, enforce from the previous spot. If accepted, K re-kicks from the 25 (assuming they were originally kicking from the 40). If declined, touchback and R's ball @ 20.

Somehow I got force and All-but-one twisted up into this sitch.

Bayou Ump you are still having a bad night LOL. If K accepts the penalty, they will rekick from R's 45 yard line. The penalty for the illegal kick is on R not on K. Have an adult beverage, get some sleep, tomorrow's game will be better.
