Has anyone ever seen a drop kick? Why is it still in the rule book? I've only seen one in my life and it was on accident. It was a preseason game for the old Browns (before they moved) and the punter almost missed the ball and the tip touched the ground before he kicked it. I believe the ball actually sailed out of the endzone and I I think should have been counted as a missed field goal and not a simple touchback. The officials missed it and the game went on. Later someone on ESPN noticed it and said "well it's preseason for the refs too."

Anyhow...just curious if anyone else has seen a drop kick at any level of play.

Never seen it, doubt I ever will.

I'm still waiting to see a freekick after faircatch. I had a coach this season tell me if they faircatch they're going to freekick but they ended up returning it. DARN.

Nope. Instead of signaling faircatch the player returned the punt. So no option to freekick.

Wow! You saw one just last week? What were the circumstances? Why did they try a drop kick instead of a regular place kick? Or was it an accident like the situation I described with the punt turned drop kick?

They put everyone on the line except for the kicker. It was during an extra point try. I was the R and was rather curious about the formation. I'm thinking they are going to pass, but instead he drop kicks it. We were using a 4 man crew as this was a JV game, once I seen this would be drop kick I immediately moved to watch the uprights, but the kick was blocked at the line.

I too have seen drop kicks used for extra points. Looks very strange, we were fortunate to see the drop kicker warming up before the game. His were not blocked and scored.

How he managed to do it was kind of amazing to me!

The drop kick is alive and well in 6 man football.
