Inexplicable, the Giant QB attempts to hand off to Larry Csonka. The ball is fumbled. Herman Edwards scoops it up and returns it for a game winning touchdown.
Eagle fans know this as the "Miracle in the Meadowlands". Giant fans simply call it "The Fumble".

This play caused teams to rethink the situation and take a knee with several guys in position to tackle any would-be recovery of a fumble. The offensive coordinator for the play was Bob Gibson, my former landlord and former coach at Bowling Green. I couldn't blame him, as that was what all teams did at the time. I think he lost his job over the play.
