If the coach went to his injured player and not to his team huddle and he had the headset and did not give it to a player, then the coach did nothing wrong in my opinion. Did the White hat blow it, you have to be the judge of that.

The coach can use his headset during a TO, whether near the sideline or in the middle of the field.
