I recently filled in for a stat guy this weekend and was wondering if any one could answer a couple questions.

1. Do negetive rushing/passing yards get subtacted from gained yards. i.e. if a guy runs for 100 yards on the night, but was stuffed for a 5 yard loss on 1 play, does he still get credit for 100.

2. Do extra yards added at the end of a run/rec. due to penalty get credited to the player's yard. i.e. if a running back gains 5 yards on a run, but gets his face mask grabbed, does he get the extra penalty yards credited to him?

simply put..

yes (subtract the yards) and no (he doesnt get credit for penalty yardage).

Another tricky one...
Running back runs for 10 yards, but holding penalty called 4 yards downfield. 10 yds from spot of foul. Does Running back get 4 yds rushing and the team get 10 yd penalty OR does Running back get 0 yds rushing and team get a 6 yard penalty?

Previously (and perhaps still), this manual contained som fantastic examples, such as how do you record the run on a play in which there is a false start? Or was it offside on the offense?
