Missed High School Field Goal

In high school, if a missed field goal is short and lands in the end zone, it gets spotted at the 20 yard line.

But where does the ball get spotted if the missed field goal falls short of the end zone? For instance, if it rolls dead at the 5 yard line or rolls out of bounds at the 2 or something odd like that.
