If there is a 15 yard face mask penalty during a run from scrimmage that results in a touchdown is it assessed from the succeeding spot (the PAT) or the kickoff?

While there may be options under other codes, the NFHS only allows the offended team succeeding spot enforcment (the try) or decline the penalty.
<b>Restated: There is never an option to carry over a penalty to the kickoff for fouls by the opponent of the scoring team occuring during a touchdown scoring play.</b>

Assuming that a facemask qualifies as a foul for this type of play:

I have a problem with no option but the PAT.

There gives the D the ability to facemask, knowing that it's only going to be a 1.5 yard penalty, at most.

In Canada, you can go half the distance (from the 5), or the full 15 on the KO.

Lots of us working under the NF code have problems with it, too. It's certainly not the only problem, even. This one, I hope, will be corrected soon. I'm not sure it will be, though - NFHS doesn't seem eager to give options on penalty enforcements.

These scenarios involve the same concept as "half the distance" penalties. Personal foul on defense at the 5-yd line results in 2 1/2 yds of penalty, whereas on the offense it is 15 yds. What are ya gonna do? :)

I agree, but it's better than what it used to be (free shot by anyone on the defense on a TD or PAT).
