A FLAG FOOTBALL rec league in from my workplace just posed a question to me regarding rings (wedding bands, etc.)

They are asking me if the officials should allow them to be worn if covered by a glove or tape.

My own feeling was to disallow them regardless of what they are covered with. I wanted to get other opinions.

Thanks

There is a small chance that an injury could occur that could be very damaging. I remember back in high school when a guy jumped up to touch the rim on a backetball goal and his class ring got caught in the net. You can rip a finger off by doing this. In a football game, especially since this game involves grabbing at straps and fabric on every play, having a ring on can be a hazard. However some of the players may not be able to remove the ring.

So I guess I would suggest that the rings be removed if possible. If not possible then allow the tape or glove option if the ring is not viewed to be a hazard in itself, pointy or excessively large and could be used to hit other players.

Good question, there isn't much of a danger in flag football but if you really want to CYA then you could just rule them illegal.
