I think because it is "just football" is a pretty darn good reason for a rule.

"Pass the rule, whatever you want, but make sure you know how you're going to officiate it and make sure the officials do it. The more objectivity you give to the officials, the more problems you're going to have.

Did he mean to say subjectivity? It is true, this rule may be "sticky," but IMHO, the rule does need to be put in place. I do think it is a bit like the block in the back rule. If the runner goes low, a defender should be 'excused' if he tackles at the shoulder pads.

He [Roy Williams] labeled the potential rule as "crazy," claiming the technique he also used in high school and college is necessary to compete.

Just because something is 'necessary to compete,' does not make it safe/mean it should be legal. Also, I think he is confusing 'necessary to compete' with 'makes being a defender easier.'

Anyway, I would 'throw my support' behind this rule. Just my random thoughts on the subject.
