Do any of you have a checklist or other device used to rate crews? We are looking at something for our association to use. Our state doesn't do it. Do you have anything that you give to coaches to rate/evaluate crews?

Our chapter uses cards. Our wing officials are given cards by the referee who then are required to give them to the coaches. We ask the coach of each team to provide each of the five officials a grade of 1 thru 5 (overall). We provide them the opportunity to comment on appearance, hustle, rules knowledge, dealing with players and coaches, etc. They can "sub-categorize" in those areas. In cases where the official was assigned a "1" we request comments asking why the official was rated so low. Hope this helps.

MI uses the system that ljudge described(except 1 is best & 5 is lowest). Each coach is required to rate the officials. Failure to do so can get the school put on probation and possibly even disallowed from the playoffs. If a coach gives an official a 5 he must send in a form to the MHSAA explaining why and he must also mail a copy to the official. Needless to say we don't see any 5's. Either the coach doesn't want to bother with the form or he doesn't have the nads to inform the official what he really thinks of him.

Forksref, if you send me an e-mail I can reply and give you a picture of the card we use.
