Greetings everyone!

Well I paid the $75 and purchased the NFHS Officiating Principles Course. The course is done interactively online and also comes with a nice book called Successful Sports Officiating. After you work your way through the course materials, which I estimate will take me about 20 hours or so, you take a test and they add your name to a national registry.

Go to the following web-site to read about the course and other interesting information:

http://www.ASEP.com

I'm not a sales rep or anything like that but so far I enjoy the course and its a great way to see the big picture of sports officiating.

Mike:

I looked into taking the course when it first came out last year, but ended up not doing so. I'd like to hear your impressions of the course once you're done. Can you post them here? Or drop me an e-mail at [email protected].

Thanks!

Hello Ken!

Ken, I'm still working my way through the course. Its very comprehensive.

Here are the 5 major parts:

1 Developing an Officiating Philosophy
2 Psychology of Officiating
3 Personal Fitness for Officials
4 Managing Your Professional Responsibilities
5 The Officiating Profession

What I truly enjoy most about the course is that its very interactive and thought-provoking. It is making me dig deep inside myself and look at not only officiating but life itself in a new way (so many of the same qualities that make an excellent official can be practiced in everyday routines). I hope to get some other people interesting enough to take the course this year so we can share our impressions and experiences.

So far I highly recommend the course.

I'd like to take the course as well, but it really rubs me the wrong way that an organization such as NFHS, that is funded by our dues, feels that it has to charge $75.

Actually, this course is through a third party vendor (www.asep.com) and the Fed doesn't have much to do with it beyond that.

Sounds good so far! Let me know your thoughts once you finish up. Thanks!
