If the ball is at the 30 yar line, is it a 48 yard field goald attempt? How far back do you put it?

are you a placekick holder or a fantasy football geek trying to squeeze out one more point?

REPLY: Unless I'm missing the joke, line of scrimmage at the 30 plus the ten yards of the endzone, plus 7 yards (usually) between the snapper and holder. 47 or 48 yards sounds right to me.

Where's the punt?

For tigereye711:

If they measure the FG from the spot where the player kicks it, why do they measure the punt from the LOS?

You just land a job as a holder for the conference championship games? You seem a bit frantic about this question.

Go to Borders and look for "Placekicking for Dummies". It'll have all the answers you need.

You're correct Bob. As a former field goal kicker, this is the way that our official measurements were computed. Kickers who kicked high, had the holder spot the ball 6-7 yards behind the snapper. Kickers who tended to more line drive type kicks, had the holder line up 8 yards deep in order to prevent the kick from being blocked.
