I need to know what isgnals are to be given if there is a bolt of lightning occuring overhead during a game? What I did was to give the timeout signal then pointed using both hands overhead to the sky. I recall seeing this mechanic signal in Referee Magazine. Did I use good signaling?

I would use the timeout signal, followed by me getting the hell out of there. :)

What's the difference? You need to communicate to both teams and a signal is not going to cut it here anyway.

Signal an official's timeout -- that's what it is.

Holding your hand above your head might not be the greatest of ideas with lightning in the area. ;)

Yeah, I think that when they see you sending the teams, and crew, to cover, someone will get the idea.

no crap there I was...

This year, first friday night game. I am working as a fill in for an awful crew...

Lightning directly overhead. I am the BJ. I kill the clock (no additional signals) and tell the B and A to get to the sidelines as I am moving towards the R saying "Lightning, Lightning, Lightning!" HL and LJ hear me, turn to the coaches and say get your players off the field. R goes to home team AD and tells him sitch. AD clears the stands. U and myself mark time, ball position, down and distance and beat feet to the dressing room. 70 minute delay.

Total time to get players and officials off the field - 5 minutes.

Can you beat the thunder?

You need to record team in possession, position of ball, down, distance, position of clip and time on the clock.
