How many games have you officiated this season thus far including all youth, sub varsity, and varsity games? I wanted to get a sense of how many games an avg official is working on a year to year.
Thus far i have officiated 45 games. |
7 varsty
7 middle school 7 Jv and Freshmen 30 Boys club game (Youth) Cbrockett |
First season - I did exactly 100 (begged for the final game when I totalled up my season and found I'd reached 99). 72 last year. By season's end, I'll have had 36 SubV, 3 V, and 39 PeeWee (78 total).

Youth League 26 Jr. High 15 JV 6 Varsity 2 Total 49 |
Tomorrow, a state semi-final (As a R) will be my 15th Varsity this year and 305th Varsity in 26 years.
|
Wow. I wouldn't have time to do that many games.
I had five scheduled before the season started and since have picked up 9 more, but it's my first year. I'd like to do a couple "dates" a week (whether I do one game or multiple on a single date) during the length of the season. |
Don't do pee wees any more. Have to save the knees.
Will probably wind up with 22-23 varsity plus a playoff game or two if chosen. And about 20 non-varsity including all levels. Working only only turf fields now, again because of the knees, so I probably won't have many, if any, more Jr High games. |
Looks like 23 games so far, with around 10 left to go.
I'm very curious how Jim's got over 20 varsity games. Is your association seriously understaffed? 'Round here, it's rare for an official to get more than one varsity game per week, and with a nine-week season (plus regional/state playoffs)... |
Yes we are very understaffed. This last Friday my Varsity crew consisted of myself (R), a back judge with 2 years, a linesman with 1 year, a line judge with 1 year, and a rookie in his first varsity game and 1st game at umpire....... Sometimes I feel like a baby sitter. I believe we had about 11 1st year guys working Varsity games Friday night.
But normally here a V1 official will get two varsity games each week. With the occasional double header or third night thrown in. With a ten week season they add up. Throw in the fact that we've had a few go down this year and a number of retirements (including two to D1 and 1 to the NFL). You work a lot of games. Double headers (not JV, then varsity) involving different schools are played at Seattle Memorial Stadium. Sometimes two games, 5 & 8. Sometimes 3 games starting in the afternoon. There are also occasional doubleheaders played at one or two other stadiums in the area. [Edited by Jim S on Oct 17th, 2004 at 09:14 PM] |
