A88 out for a pass runs into B21 standing on the 15 yard line and looking back into the back field. B21 did not move to get in A88's way. If anything the A88 ran into him. A88 then pushed off some to gain seperation for the catch and TD. Ball was definetly in the air during all contact.

Do you have DPI for B21 impeading A88's route?

OPI for A88 running into B21 and then pushing off?

Or do you call both DPI and OPI and offset them.

I called OPI because based off the whole play because I felt A88 gained the biggest advantage on the play and B21 really did not do much to cause the initial collision.

I would probably have to see it, but based on what you said, I only have OPI. B21 did nothing to initiate contact, and A88 did push off to, as you said, create separation. Anyway, that is how I would view it.

ditto

I have OPI based on the advantage gained by A88 for the push off. I remember in Jr. High running this play. TE crack on the LB and pop out into the flat for a catch b/c I didn't understand the intent of the play. It should have been OPI every time.

This is a perfect example of HTBT.

All I would add is that you usually only call a DPI for impeding if a defender purposefully slows in front of a receiver without attempting to catch the ball.
