Anyone besides me have a problem with the unsucessful "tackle eligible" play?

Didn't see it, want to give us the details.

Screen pass to #68
 

Tight end (uncovered) on left side end of the line. Prior to the snap, he comes off the line, goes in motion to the right, then resets next to the right tackle, with a receiver on the right side on end of the line so there are still 7 on the line. QB takes the snap, drops back throws a screen pass (forward) behind the line to the left to tackle #68 who turns around attempting to catch it and falls over backwards bobbling and dropping the ball. Ruling on the field was incomplete pass, next down. The announcer (Pat Haden) proceeded to tell us what a great play it would have been, it surely would have resulted in a touchdown had he caught the ball, then proceeded to explain how the "tackle eligible" is supposed to work when the tackle is left uncovered. No flags, and no mention of the 50-79 restriction!

From your description, it sounds like a text book case of illegal touching.

Is it possible that the tackle never touched the ball??

Therefore, just an incomplete pass couple with brainless TV announcers.

The ultimate 'brainless' announcers were on TV last night. Yes, I'm talking about Theisman and Maguire. These two guys don't have a clue, that they don't have a clue.

1- As I recall, he definitely touched the ball.

2- If he didn't touch the ball, there is no foul, but the play was definitely designed to go to #68, which means the offensive coordinator is an idiot!

I saw this play and wondered. The tackle definately touched the ball.

Does the NCAA have numbering requirements like the FED does?

Not identical... but a player numbered 50-79 cannot receive a pass.

I didn't get a chance to see the game, but I taped it. I just checked. It is clearly a forward pass to #68, and he clearly touches it while trying to catch it. The crew missed it.

Glad you brought that up - I was concerned on that one as well. Definitely forward and he touched it.

Also, does anybody know what happened to the U in the Miami-FSU game? I kept seeing the back judge around the ball after the play and I'm thinking that he was a prety eager guy, then I saw him spotting the ball and realized he was the U now and they had gone to six men.

Of course, the announcers never noticed (Musberger was in prime form - what a nitwit)

And the Nitwit announcers make hundreds of thousands of dollars and i scream at them every game i watch!!!!

U got hit by a receiver coming across the middle - looks like he may have turned a knee. TV showed him on the bench with knee being wrapped by a trainer.

Anyone see the situation just before half-time in last night's game? R forgot to mark off a penalty prior to a FG attempt on the last play. I think it was offsides. The attempt was no good. Then they caught their error and brought both teams out for another FG attempt 5-yds closer. Denver was already in the lockerroom and the coach was really PISSED! Then, the crew didn't know where to spot the ball so they had to go to the replay guy to figure out where to spot the ball. The chains must have been removed after the first attempt. It looked like they were trying to mark off ten yards. They finally got it right and the second FG attempt was no good.

Never seen an NFL crew look so incompetent!

Gotta feel for those guys. Any other part of the game than the end of a half and a mistake like that would be forgotten by the next play.

All of us have been in the soup at one point. If, at the end of it all, you get it right, that's all that matters.


That crew did the NFC Championship last year - they're pretty good.
