Question

With the new (and some old) new enforcements of penalties after a score by "A" and a live ball foul by "B" what is the best way to signal what is going on.

For example, "A" kicks a field goal and "B" commits a "roughing the holder" penalty. Using common mechanics, for "A" to get the results of the play, "A" should refuse the penalty. If they would accept the penalty (before special penalty enforcement on scoring play's), it would have resulted in a 1st down and either 15 yards or half the distance.

With the new "penalty after score" enforcement, if accepted "A" would still get the 1st down and 15 yards option. If they declined the penalty, they would get the 3 points and a 15 yard penalty would be accessed on the kickoff.

What is the recommended mechanics to let both teams and "everyone else" know what the options are and what decision were made??

Lightbulb Not much you can do.

You would do everything the same. You would give a preliminary signal first. Then you would signal their decision. If they accept the penalty and it would be enforced on the kickoff, you would just point in the direction of where they would kickoff. If they would take the penalty on a try, then you just signal in your final signals they have accepted the penalty. Not much else you can do unless you get a microphone. That was what we were told to do.

Peace

We had a discussion on this at our state camp. We decided we should first give the TD signal - hesitate then give the penalty signal. That way hopefully there is no question about the score.

Would you have the HL give the signal after marching off the yardage prior to the kick?

Question

Patton and others, treat the penalty enforcement as a "dead ball penalty" for the purposes of penalty administration from the kick line prior to the kickoff?? We also need to make sure that the "A" sideline understands the options, pregame topic, etc..??

Is this a statement or a question? My question was if after a successful try and a penalty by B, after walking off the yardage from K's 40, would the HL give any signal. Similiar to encroachment on a kickoff and the HL takes care of the signals.

Patton, I was trying to agree about HL doing the penalty walk-off but I didn't state it very well as well as describe other conditions. Agree 100%!!
