HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME.. K1 KICKOFF IS ONSIDE KICK, R47 GOES ACROSS HIS FREE KICK TO MEET THE BALL AFTER THE BALL WAS KICKED AND COVERS IT AT K 49.. I HAVE NO FLAG BECAUSE IT WAS KICKED CAN'T BE ENCROACHMENT BY R, COACH GOES CRAZY WANTS TO REKICK WITH ENCROACHMENT PENALITY.. DID I MISS SOMETHING ON THIS ONE?

Sounds to me like the only thing you missed was the capslock key. If R47 was on his side of the line when it was kicked, he can go wherever he wants after the kick. Sounds like a coach with an interesting understanding of the rules.

PS - you didn't mention FED or NCAA - I'm assuming Fed is same as NCAA on this.

Encroachment rules evaporate at the snap for a down and when the ball is kicked on a free kick. Think of the kicker kicking the ball as the "snap" for the free kick.

Had to flag R for encroachment on the free kick Friday. R26 was straddling the 50 yard line anticipating an onside kick. Once the referee blew the ready, I hit my whistle, and threw the flag. K kicked from the 45.

Them Fed rules is funny. :)

Do you all have the new rule where if K encroaches on the kick, R can either rekick after a 5-yard penalty, or simply tack 5 yards onto the end of the run? I've had it 3 times so far, and it still feels uncomfortable.

No such enforcement in Fed... Encroachment is a dead ball foul, so the play is blown dead and there is no play... Back 'em up five and try again...
