What kind of watch do you use?

I know everybody has to have one - I've seen a referee watch that is big and round and is apparently made specifically for football. It has different color-coded areas based on how much time is left and apparently can count down and whatnot.

For someone who's unlikely to be a referee, what kind of watch should you/could you have? I haven't worn a personal watch in about 10 years, so I don't own any. Can you get decent watches cheap, is a digital one that can count down okay, and are you constantly fiddling with it to start and stop it?

I thought I've seen referees back in the day with old-fashioned circular stopwatches in their hands the entire time - is that still done?

It took me a while to track one down, but I finally found one that counts down in tenths of a second. That way I can tell if it's running at a quick glance.

Couple years ago, I had one that counted UP.Of course, we are working a pair of youth games and I am the only one that has a watch on this field with no clock.Good thing I am very good with math, had to do quick figureing to convert:)

I've had to do that before, after several games of doing it it really does become easy lol

But about the watches, just go to kmart or some store that has watches and start playin with them. You want to find the watch that fits you. Some watches have one button for stop and one for start, some watches use the same button. There are a bunch of different options so just get what you like. You most definitely want a watch that has countdown mode unless you want to beable to do the subtraction again.

I purchased the NFL watch from Honig's. I like this watch. Big start/stop button and a large number display. I also like the adjustable Velcro band. http://www.honigs.com/detail.asp?Cat=1&Sub=8&Item=820
