Good day to you JugglingRef and ref18.
Can either of you provide me with information as to where I might order a Canadian Football Cap? Specifically the White cap with Black piping and a Black bill? I used to own one but I have misplaced it.
Thank you and Good Day - Aye

Honigs has a Canadian website.

http://www.honigs-canada.com/home.html

Good spot for Canadian equipment, eh?

ref18 Mon Jul 12, 2004 05:18pm

Either http://www.honigs-canada.com

or http://www.worldofsports.ca

Honigs is located in Hamilton

The World Of Sports is located in Brantford

Just out of curiosity, where'd you get the origional one, and where do you work football out of?

Thanks for the info. As to where I got my orignal cap, I am sure I got it through mail order but from where I do not recall.
I work out of Portland Oregon and I am sure you were wondering so the answer is no, I have never worked a game of 12 player, 3-down, 120 yard football in my life. But I would be open to the opportunity if you would like to swap assignments sometime. What do you say, eh!
PS I have good friends in Edmonton who enjoy Eskimo football, snow and the beer eh!

I know that the black caps with whipe piping are in style now-a-days, but what on earth would you need one of those awful white hats for. ;)

Just as a conversation piece in my office. They are unique to us in the states, eh.

As mentioned, these two places are the places to go.

Not that it matters, but World of Sports in located in Brampton, not Brantford. Brampton is very close to Toronto, and some people just call Brampton, Toronto.

ref18, I don't know why people get them mixed up. Brantford is my home town. It is also the hometown of the greatest hockey player of all time, Wayne Gretzky. Brampton is home to ????????????

I have never worked 12 player, 3 down, 120-yard football either! But I have worked said with 110-yard fields. ;)

Plus two 20-yard endzones, makes 150 yards total. Pretty big eh?

Didn't Edmonton get hit with snow recently?

Eskimos are reigning Grey Cup champions. If I recall, the Grey Cup is even older than the Stanley Cup.

Hey ref18: I'm actually heading to Hamilton tomorrow - I haven't been to the Football HOF in awhile and since I don't have an OV assignment tomorrow, I thought it'd be a good day to go. Watchin' the Argos/Riders game right now...

Here's a play for ya J: 2D/10 from the Team A 24 yard-line. A long pass is thrown and OPI is called. (Just happened to be called by me. lol) What are the options?

Cheers.

Never mind with that question either. HOF stands for Hall of Fame. Wow, I must really be tired, if I can't understand that. I've actually never been to the hall of fame, I should try and get there some time.

I completely misread the play. Now i just have to write a response that actually goes with said play. For some reason, i thought that the OPI occured behind the line of scrimmage, but it didn't so here's the ruling I found.

Rule 6 Section 4, Article 10

Penalty: 1

By Team A- Loss of 15 yards and repeat the down.

There are also some possible options, but I need to know the outcome of the pass to give those.

I think I'd need a bit more information as to the outcome of the pass, was it incomplete or completed and if it was caught, then by whom??

Mike, there was another thing I wanted to ask you, I'm in the process of looking for universities to go to next September, and Waterloo is one of my top choices, I'm just wondering exactly how much basketball or football goes on down there to officiate???

Forksref Sat Jul 17, 2004 07:36am

My vote goes to Gordie Howe who did it when there were only 6 teams, not the current watered-down version of the NHL.

My friend Chris and I both do basketball and this one ALWAYS gets us: I mean ALWAYS!!!

In b-ball, as you know, a double foul, is a pair of "offsetting" fouls committed by opponents against each other. Or, in looser terms, a play with fuls by both teams. In football, a play with fouls by both teams is called a dual foul. And in football, a double fouol is a play with two fouls committed by the SAME team.

I have to consciously remember that distinction.

Gordie was good. No arguement here. Gretzky even modelled his # 99 after Howe's # 9. He's even said that Gordie was his hockey player idol. There's a famous pic with a young Gretzky (I'd guess at about age 12) with Howe in his Red Wings jersey.

However, the NHL of today is not like the NHL of the late 70s and 80s, which was Gretzky's dominate years.

Not sure if you get ESPN Classic Canada (why would you), but when they show olde school Edmonton games - I can remember watching some of those games live and seeing Gretzky play those games again makes me laugh. It some cases, it seems like a man playing with boys.

Aw, you shoulda gave options if the pass was attempted after and before the LS.

In section (i), the pass was thrown to a location beyond the LS:
In part (a) the pass was complete by the defense.
In part (b) the pass was complete by the offense.
In part (c) the pass was incomplete.

In section (ii), the pass was thrown to a location before the LS:
In part (a) the pass was complete by the defense.
In part (b) the pass was complete by the offense.
In part (c) the pass was incomplete.

When I was an undergrad at Bowling Green, Gordie came down from Detroit to make a training film. He did it in our ice arena at night when it was not being used. I'd go in and watch what was going on. He had his sons Mark and Marty with him on the ice, I'd guess about ages 10 and 12. He also had Roger Crozier, the Red Wings goalie. Roger was a show in himself. Gordie was amazing. He'd stand at the boards right next to the goal line and flick shots into the upper corner of the net. He had forearms like Rod Laver. I know I'd never want to go into the corner with him. Gretzky was amazing too. He had glue on his stick. The best defenseman I'd ever seen was Bobby Orr. No one since him has been as good. The Montreal-Boston series of the early 70's were classics. Just some personal observations from an old-timer.

(i)
(a) Repeat the down, and give A the ball and go back 15 yards from PLS,
or
decline the penalty and accept the interecption and subsequent play (the likely answer).

(b) Repeat the down 15 yards back of PLS
or
Decline the penalty and give A any distance gained (highly unlikely)

(c) Repeat the down 15 yeards back of PLS
or
Decline the penalty and let the play stand as an incomplete pass

same options regardless of whether the pass was thrown before or beyond the LS

Cagey Sat Dec 11, 2004 06:07pm

You can also try World of Sports. They have been around since 1980 and have a web site at http://www.worldofsports.ca

ref18 Sat Dec 11, 2004 10:11pm

Hey Cagey, if you read the first page of the thread you'll see I mention World of Sports :)

I assume since you know so much about it, you must be a Lakeshore guy, am I right??

You're just a tad bit late with this thread, eh?? :D

999!!!!

Cagey Sun Dec 12, 2004 05:55am

I only came across this page yesterday by accident. When I was looking up things, never saw the rest of the posts. It took me a little while to figure out how to negotiate through the thread. By the time I figured it out, I had already posted. Consider it an inadvertent whistle.

ref18 Sun Dec 12, 2004 01:04pm

Are you a Canadian Football Official??

Cagey Sun Dec 12, 2004 05:31pm

How else would I know about white hats with black piping and a black peak? Seriously though, yes, have been for about 6 years.

ref18 Sun Dec 12, 2004 08:34pm

Where are you reffin out of??

Cagey Mon Dec 13, 2004 05:06am

You guessed right the first time. I am a member of Lakeshore. From your other posts, I gather you are a member of Hamilton.

ref18 Mon Dec 13, 2004 08:14am

Welcome to the forum.

Cagey Mon Dec 13, 2004 07:46pm

Many thanks. I have enjoyed reading through many of the posts. As well, I have come across a few people I know.

ref18 Mon Dec 13, 2004 08:05pm

Have we met yet??

If you've done an OV game in Hamilton over the past 2 years chances are we've met.

JugglingReferee Mon Dec 13, 2004 11:06pm

Cagey...

...maybe you've met me?!?!?!

Any idea who I am? LOL

Cagey Tue Dec 14, 2004 04:03am

Juggling ref, you I know and have met you several times. Ref18, have not done any games in Hamilton.

Cool! Now the question begs...

...who the hell are you?????? I can't figure out a clue of some sort, so I might need a little more help.

How we reffed together? OV, or when I was with Lakeshore? (I was finishing school in Oakville, so I reffed there for a year.)

Cagey Tue Dec 14, 2004 04:08pm

Nope, we haven't ref'd together. Even in Lakeshore.
Let's see, we met through Don Irvine. Does that help?

JugglingReferee Tue Dec 14, 2004 11:06pm

Ok... lemme see.

What year did I meet you? Summer of fall?

How long have you been a football referee? Were you ever with another association, or just Lakeshore?

ref18 Tue Dec 14, 2004 11:48pm

The guessing game continues :)

Cagey Wed Dec 15, 2004 05:09am

No guessing game. Juggling ref, we met at a golf tournament in August about 3 or 4 years ago. At one time you were working on helping me re design my web page.

JugglingReferee Wed Dec 15, 2004 07:43am

Keith! How are you?

You'll be happy to know that we've already got 3 new recruits for next year! When the time comes to purchase a uniform, they'll call ya.

Cagey Wed Dec 15, 2004 07:54am

Just fine Mike, how are you? Glad to hear about the new recruits. I am already starting to work on our 2005 pricing and product assortment. As well, for next year, and I hope it will be ready by February, I will have a secure on line ordering process in place. So in addition to phone, fax or email, people will also be able to directly on line. We have also added some new sports as well and improved our line (in process) of basketball ref items. Talk to you soon.

ref18 Wed Dec 15, 2004 09:10am

Keith,

Were you at any of the clinics held by Lakeshore over the summer??

Cagey Wed Dec 15, 2004 04:21pm

Yup, I was set up at the Level 1 / 2 / 3 clinics. I was also at the pre-season and mid season tackle clinics as well as the pre season touch clinic. There were a couple of people from HFOA at the Level 1 in the summer. Not sure about Level 2 or 3. Were you at the clinics?

ref18 Wed Dec 15, 2004 05:34pm

Yeah, I was at the level 2 clinic.

Cagey Wed Dec 15, 2004 07:51pm

I'm not sure if we met or not. I had a small product display set up for people attending all three clinics. We probably talked at some point during the day.

ref18 Wed Dec 15, 2004 10:36pm

We talked, I was the kid who was trying to buy the bean bag.

Ring a bell??

JugglingReferee Wed Dec 15, 2004 10:44pm

Keith,

How did you determine that JugglingReferee is me?

Cagey Thu Dec 16, 2004 04:50am

Aw come on Mike, I am an investigator. If I told you I would be giving away trade secrets.

Actually, it was not very difficult. I clicked the link at the bottom of the posting to look at your profile. Your web page is listed there for public view.

When you register you can have your web page display publically or not.

Cagey Thu Dec 16, 2004 04:54am

ref18 - sorry I don't but that doesn't mean anything. Sometimes I forget what I had for breakfast. There were a lot of people there that day. I remember talking to a couple of folks from HFOA on where they purchased their uniforms.

Cagey Thu Dec 16, 2004 07:31pm

Hey Mike, just wanted to let you know that as of today, World of Sports also carries soccer ref uniforms. We are gearing up for the worlds under 20 in 2007 in the new stadium. So, if you now any soccer refs looking for equipment, please direct them to our site.

ref18 Thu Dec 16, 2004 10:49pm

What brands of equipment do you carry for basketball officials?? I think you mentioned Cliff Keen for football, do you also stock their basketball gear??

Cagey Fri Dec 17, 2004 04:37am

Yes, we do. Up until this year, I carried the Dalco line, but starting this fall, we are now carrying the Cliff Keen line of shirts and pants. The web site has not yet been updated, but it is being worked on. I have limited stock so far, but anything you need we can usually get in about a week.

JugglingReferee Fri Dec 17, 2004 09:50am

Sure thing Keith,

I will keep it in mind.

Mike
