How do you folks feel about wearing shorts as a Crew for a
High School Senior All County Game this weekend?
Monday Night game in PA.
I always borrow them for the HS Scrimmages in the Summer
when the attendance is low but, these players will
bring their cat,dog and family!
The game is a free-bee anyway.
The checks get donated into the County Football Fund!
Comments appreciated,

Aloha coach!

Do you know the weather forecast?

I would say for an all-star game knickers are best.

Can your crew vote on this or does it come down from your association?

Mike Simonds Tue May 25, 2004 03:00pm

Upon further review...

Coach, since this is an evening game I think your crew should wear knickers.

If it was a mid-day game that started prior to 3pm then you might get away with shorts, especially if the temperature is over 80 degrees at kick-off.

But knickers do look a lot better thats for sure.

Have a great game and enjoy yourself!

 SHORTS SUCK

This issue (shorts vs. knickers) has been and will continue to be a preference, not to mention emotional issue at the high school level for a long time.

I'm with Jim and do not like them at all. I've got no problem with wearing shorts on a golf course, but I do when its to be on a football field.

Of course if the new salve works Jimmy won't hate shorts as much!

Ha, ha...very funny Jim. But you know I wouldn't have needed the salve if I'd just bought a new jock instead of using the hand-me-down you sent  As a mater of fact, I’m sending it back... COD! :p

Hey Jim, I was with your "Uncle Ed" this past weekend at a charity flag tournament. He just received a tape from the NFL offices on "gray area" plays -- those where the call could go either way. He's planning on getting a bunch of guys together to review it along with Pierera's comments. One of his calls is included. I'll let you know when it happens. Maybe you and dkl can make the trip...and bring Jim S along!

Theisey Thu May 27, 2004 09:14am

Hey Robert, when might you be doing this film review?

Gosh darn it Bob, I'd love to be there but I've committed to 24-7 on my viability sheet and I better be here in case I get the "CALL". As far as Jim and DKL go, I believe they’re already on the East Coast. It seems that the only state they can get the legal license they need is Massachusetts. hehehheheheheh

Bob, do you know if the tape could be made available to other aspiring officials? If so, who to contact?

My legs ain't pretty, so, I don't wear shorts. I only wish some of my bretheren who make even my legs look pretty would leave them shorts at home.

Shorts don't belong on officials on the football field for a meaningful game. Want to wear them for a scrimmage, fine. A game. No.

kentref Fri May 28, 2004 09:12pm

Agree with Ed. Shorts have no place in a football game, regardless of the weather conditions. Scrimmages, maybe, but I really don't like them there either.

REPLY: JMN...I really don't know if there's a 'formal' way to get a copy (maybe the NFL Director of Officiating ??) but if we can pull this together here, I'll see if I can get a copy from Ed.
